Blackheads – Why They Appear and How to Get Rid Of Them

Blackheads don’t hurt, they aren’t a dangerous health issue, but cosmetically they can be a real pain, and very difficult to remove. There are, however, some handy remedies that can reduce most of them, especially the ones that show up around the nose area.

What are blackheads and why are they so difficult to remove? And most importantly, why do they have the bad habit of showing up again soon after we get rid of them?

Unfortunately, especially with a lighter skin tones, black spots can become a real aesthetic problem, impossible to mask with make-up.

Why do they appear

Blackheads usually occur due to dilated pores, which creates the right environment for the accumulation of abundant sebum secretion. They are more common in oily types of skins. Dermatology specialists explain that sebaceous gland terminals reach the surface of the skin, and the produced sebum oxidizes in contact with the air and results in a dark color.

The T area is more prone to acne and blackheads

Most blackheads occur frequently in the T-area of the face: forehead, nose, chin. This usually happens because the skin on these places is oily and produces more sebum. This is the natural secretion of sebaceous glands that protect the skin. Composed of fatty acids and protein materials, sebum has a bactericidal role.

How to get rid of blackheads – the steam bath

By far the most effective way to remove blackheads is the steam bath.

Add a spoon of chamomile flowers in a hot water pot and cover your head with a towel. Lean over the pot for as long as you can, or until the water cools down.

After the skin has softened and the pores are opened, massage the affected areas with a wiping pad, without applying too much pressure on the skin. Finally, rinse your face with cold water to close the pores and apply a toner and moisturizer.

How to get rid of blackheads – Honey and coffee scrub

Once a week you can use a soft scrub made of a mixture of honey and ground coffee.

The mixture should have a dark color. Properly moisten your skin and then do a gentle massage using your new scrub. Make sure to not apply it directly on the area under your eyes.

How to get rid of blackheads – Lemon and egg whites mask

Another effective remedy for combating blackheads is the egg white, lemon, dry yeast & kaolin mask.

Mix an egg white, 2 tbsp lemon juice, 1 tsp of dry yeast and one tsp of kaolin – a special clay that you can find at natural stores.

Tip: If these remedies do not improve as much as blackheads, it is advisable to go visit cosmetician. Skin types are different from person to person and a more specialized treatment might be required.
