5 Tricks for a Perfect Tan

When summer comes, we often can’t wait to go to the seaside and bathe in the sun from morning till night. Well, if you want a beautiful and lasting tan, it is important to take proper care of your skin and to follow a few simple steps.

Exfoliate to get rid of stains

Before you expose your skin to the sun, make sure it is ready for a lasting natural tan. Dead skin cells can prevent tanning evenly, so peeling is essential. Insist more on areas where the skin is drier and harsher, such as knees or elbows – otherwise you risk getting tanned with spots. The most used exfoliating ingredients are coffee, sugar, oatmeal or corn flour, combined with various types of vegetable oil or honey.

Moisturize your skin

Make sure your skin is smooth. For this, you need to hydrate it very well. Moisturized skin is easier to tan, and the risk of sunburn is lower. Apply a moisturizing cream, especially on areas where your skin is dry. For an in-depth hydration, choose body lotions that have a greasy texture. You can use cocoa, shea or cocoa butter. Apply them on wet skin as soon as you get out of the shower for better results. Also, make sure you drink plenty of water while sunbathing.

Consume foods rich in betacarotene

To extend the tan’s strength, ad daily foods rich in betacarotene to your diet, such as zinc, selenium and vitamins C and E. Carrots, tomatoes, apricots, peaches, oranges, melons and red pepper increase melanin production – the pigment that gives the skin its color. You can also opt for beta-carotene supplements, which you can find in most drug stores.

Use self tanning products

If you want a more intense tan, you can use the self tanning products. You can find them in different forms: cream, gel, lotion or spray. How you apply them is important, because the duration of the tan and uniformity of the color depends on it. Start with a small amount and add more as you go, to fully cover the desired area. Once you have used the product, it is not recommended to get dressed until the solution has completely absorbed into the skin. Also, avoid showerin or practicing activities that produce excessive sweating, at least 3 hours after applying.

Good to know!

After tanning, avoid exfoliating often, because with the dead skin cells you will also remove the tan layers.
