Health conditions every woman should be aware of

Although there are many health problems common to both men and women, some of them only affect women, because of the different reproductive system. Here’s how you can recognize them, and why it’s important not to skip the periodic visit to your gynecologist:

Endometriosis

This condition affects the uterus and occurs when the tissue on the uterine wall begins to deposit on other internal organs such as the ovaries, intestines, bladder or the back of the uterus. In some rare cases, it can even get to the brain, according to the American Journal of Roentgenology.

Because of this tissue, symptoms such as pain and severe bleeding may occur during menstruation, and there’s also a risk of infertility. The pain is located in the abdomen, pelvis and lumbar region. It is important that you do not skip regular visits to your doctor, especially since symptoms do not occur in all women. Another sign of endometriosis could be the increased difficulty of getting pregnant.

Breast cancer

Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer affecting women, with 1 out of 8 women being affected by this disease throughout their lives. The fear of this illness should not stop you from going to a doctor to examine your breasts for breast pain or the appearance of a breast nodule, especially since treatment for early-diagnosed cancer is always minimally invasive and very effective. At the same time, it is advisable to take preventive checks once a year, not just in case you notice any symptoms.

Additionally, there are effective prevention methods that help you to diagnose this condition and stay healthy, just like a simple breast ultrasound. This is especially recommended for women under the age of 40, for pregnant women or for those who are breastfeeding.

Uterine fibrosis

Uterine fibrosis is the most common form of non-cancerous tumor that can affect women during the fertile period. This condition manifests through the appearance of spherical tumors in the uterine wall. Symptoms that you can recognize are uterine fibrosis, abdominal pain, abnormal menstrual bleeding, frequent urination, or pain during intercourse.

Once these symptoms occur, you need to go to a doctor because untreated uterine fibrosis can lead to infertility or spontaneous abortion in pregnant women. Some women may not show any symptoms and it is therefore important to go to a regular consultation because they can be detected even during a routine check-up.

Polycystic ovary syndrome

This condition occurs when the ovaries or adrenal glands begin to produce more male hormones than normal, and the result is the appearance of cysts inside the ovaries. Symptoms may include pelvic pain, acne and small dark spots on the skin.

According to specialists, if you do not treat it in time, the condition can cause infertility, and in the long run can cause other complications, such as cardiovascular problems or type 2 diabetes.
