The Dangers Behind Body Shapers – Worth It Or Not?

We are often lured into taking shortcuts, especially because nowadays, a lot of us have a tendency towards laziness. Many times, we take poor decisions, getting into a diet or buying a product that promises us quick results in no time, with almost zero effort. Most of the times, though, these come with a cost, and a lot of people will simply ignore the dangers, not thinking about the long-term damages they can cause.

Here’s a quick test:

If I told you about a magical product which allows you to lose weight without following a strict diet plan or exercising, would you just dive in and buy?

I’m sensing that most people would definitely buy it. You’re not the only one falling for this trap. There are many products like this out there, such as the body shapers – the corset type waist trainers being marketed all over the place. This product allegedly promises to redistribute waist fat making you slimmer and fit, but as always, when something seems too good to be true, you should think twice.

True, you might end up with that perfect waist line, bosoms and inch perfect curves that every woman desires – but at what cost?

Body shapers or shapewear products are being talked about everywhere and becoming extremely popular, but are they the safest way of being leaner and healthier? Certainly not.

There are many negative long-term effects associated with these products that can seriously damage your health. These are just a few of them:

  • They can damage your lungs

The fact that it wraps you up so tightly doesn’t allow the lungs to extend to its full capacity. This causes a limp in the normal functioning of your lungs. Consequently, these products may leave you feeling short of breath and frequently exhausted as your oxygen levels drop.

  • Restricted blood circulation

Yet again due to that tightness, the blood cannot flow as freely as it’s supposed to. Blood flow is restricted, and if worn for an extended period of time it might end up clogging your blood vessels. Poor blood circulation can also very often lead to fatigue.

  • Slow bowel movement

The area around the colon and stomach is definitely subjected to unwanted and dangerous pressure, being constantly squeezed. This can easily lead to problems such as constipation.

  • You become more prone to infection

Wearing these shapers is surely a sweaty affair. The warmth and sweat that accumulates provides a perfect breeding ground for bacteria. This may make you prone to bacterial or fungal infections.

  • Acid reflux

The congestion that the shapers cause on your stomach is very discomforting. It pushes the stomach, constricting it. This reduces the rate at which the food in your stomach “moves” while it is digested, leaving you bloated all the time, as acidity levels continue to build up.

  • Waist numbness

Suppressing the nerves provides us with a feeling similar to being stung with needles, which often comes with a numbing sensation.  Tightening around the chest cavity and stomach initiates a tingling sensation on the legs.  Trust me, it is extremely uncomfortable.

  • Limited body movements

After wearing these shapers for a while, some natural body movements will become limited as the muscles will be under a lot of unnecessary stress. Because of this, it might become harder for you to do some normal movements even when you aren’t wearing the product anymore, simply because your muscles got used to all the pressure and it can take some time before they readapt.

These are the bumps and flaws we overlook when new fashion trends and ‘super products” come out, convincing and tricking us into thinking they are the perfect solution to our problems. Take a step back, think of the pros and cons, and weigh them thoroughly before jumping in.

The fastest way is not always the best one. All in all, always take the healthy route, even if it might be harder and in some cases slower. In the end, you will be very happy you did. We promise!
