Bad Habits That Lead To Gaining Weight

We all have our eating habits, some of them good, some of them not so healthy. At one point, without realizing it, you might start to gain weight. As we all know, getting rid of the extra fat is no easy task. Many people wonder why, despite all their efforts, they still cannot lose weight, or even worse, end up adding even more kilograms.

The main reason why most people are facing this issue is usually an unhealthy lifestyle, along with various bad habits that often only make things worse. Let’s check out what some of these habits are, so you can avoid them at all cost!

Being constantly stressed

It is now widely known that stress affects metabolism. Many stressed people have a strong tendency to overeat. Unfortunately, in this situation, food is not necessarily beneficial to your health, nor will it make you feel less stressed. Instead you should focus on other activities which will help you become calm, such as sports and meditation.

Skipping breakfast

Your body needs plenty of energy to function properly throughout the day. Period. If you do not eat in the morning, you will have the tendency to eat snacks and various unhealthy foods all the way to the afternoon. If you’re trying to lose or maintain a balanced weight, you probably already know that skipping breakfast is one of the worst things you could do.

Eating too fast

This is a bad habit that can have serious impacts on your health, on the long run. If you eat too fast, you will feel saturated for one or two hours, but then the hunger will set in again and you’ll end up eating more than you wish you would.

Your body needs at least half an hour to digest the food and signal your brain that the stomach is full, so take your time and eat slowly. The less you eat, the faster you’ll lose weight.

Going to sleep too late

Staying up too late and not sleeping enough can disturb some of the hormones in your body. The most affected ones are leptin (the satiety hormone) and ghrelin (the hunger hormone). Leptin signals the brain that the stomach is full, while the other stimulates the sensation of hunger. This could very well be one of the reasons we sometimes crave snacks during the night. It is important to sleep at least 7 hours a night.

Abusing coffee

Excessive caffeine consumption stimulates the secretion of cortisol, also called the stress hormone. This hormone causes a craving for either sweet or salty foods, varying from person to person. This is a quick way to gain weight and put your health at risk. Caffeine should be consumed in moderation.

Consuming too much salt

Although salt, in small quantities, is necessary for our well being, having too much of it is not recommended. Consuming it in large quantities increases fluid retention and affects blood pressure. If you think you’re eating too much salt, you should consider replacing it with other various spices from time to time, in order to make the food taste better!

Ignoring the feeling of thirst

Water stimulates metabolism and gives you a sense of satiety. You should make sure you drink at least 2 liters of water a day. Several studies have shown that consuming enough water reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease, stress and helps eliminate toxins in the body. If you don’t drink enough, however, you are putting your health at risk – and this can also dramatically slow down the weight loss process.

Consuming only 0% fat foods

You want to lose weight quickly and eat various 0% fat foods in large quantities. Bad idea! 0% fat does not necessarily mean that the product does not contain any kind of artificial sweeteners. It is good to have these products from time to time, but you have to balance your diet properly.
