A migraine may take several hours, but it can persist for up to 72 hours, in aggressive cases. Specialists have not yet discovered the true cause of migraines, but there are a number of factors that trigger migraines:

  • Allergies
  • Strong light
  • Stress
  • Certain foods: cheeses, chocolate, black teas, processed meat, coffee or citrus fruits

  • Menstruation
  • Lack of sleep
  • Depression
  • Hunger
  • Smoking, be it even passive
  • Dehydration

How can you treat migraine

Each patient responds differently to treatment, so you should try, together with your doctor, several options until you find the one that works.

Experts say that changing our lifestyle is helpful when we have migraines. Therefore, they advise us to get enough rest, to try to reduce the stress level we are exposed to, to drink more water and to do regular sports.

Lack of sleep has similar effects to migraines

Regarding drug treatment, anti-inflammatory drugs, ibuprofen-based, acetaminophen-based, as well as analgesics such as aspirin, are effective against migraines. If you suffer from migraines, never wait for the pain to settle in, but take medicines as soon possible to get the most benefits in the shortest amount of time.

Anti-nausea medicines can be used to eliminate the feeling of nausea, but also to prevent vomiting.

Antidepressants also appear on the list of medicines for the treatment of severe migraines, but these are taken only at the doctor’s recommendation.

Depending on the severity of the pain, but also on the reaction to the treatment, the doctor can make different treatment schemes, combining different substances to achieve the desired effect.

After the migraine disappears, however, some symptoms may persist, such as the sensation of inflammation in the part of the head in which the pain was felt. Regarding the psychic symptoms, some feel euphoria and a well-being with the disappearance of the migraine, while others feel drained of power and have depressive thoughts.
