The Keto Diet: Frequently asked questions – Part 2

This is the second part of our article covering the keto diet, which you can find here https://rewellness.net/2017/11/22/keto-diet-lose-weight-quick-easy-part-1/

Whenever someone mentions the keto diet, often times a lot of questions arise. It is always great to ask as many things as you can before going on a diet, to make sure that it suits you and you won’t have to fight it through the end,

We’ve gathered the questions that we saw people ask the most, so you can get a clearer picture on what this diet is and how it works.

How long should you wait after giving birth, until you can keep this diet?

After your child doesn’t require breastfeeding anymore. If you’re breastfeeding, all the liposoluble toxins from your fat tissue will reach the maternal milk, when you start to rapidly lose weight. This is definitely not recommended to your baby. While you’re breastfeeding just try to eat healthy and not put on many extra kilograms.

What fruits are recommended for the keto diet?

The general idea is simple. Smaller fruits, with maximum nutritional density and minimum carbs. So, as long as you’re not stuffing on grapes, banana, golden apples, eating fruits in limited quantities are going to be fine. Don’t eat too many, however, and make sure when you do it, it is in the morning. You can have some blueberries, cranberries, blackberries, or 1-2 kiwis a day, or a little bit of pineapple.

What aliments should you completely give up in order to do this diet?

Even though you should limit carbs to the minimum, it’s not necessary to completely give up certain foods. Try having a maximum of 50 grams of carbs/day, and you should be fine. If you can, it would probably benefit you to consume even less than that, but if you can’t, it won’t hurt the diet too much. You can even have 1-2 slices of bread/day (as long as it’s whole bread, preferably homemade).

Is the keto diet expensive?

If you compare it to typical American diets, you’ll find out it can be even cheaper. The food you will be eating has a high nutritional density, but in total you’re eating less – and accordingly, spending less. Also, as we mentioned earlier, the ketosis state will help you not have a huge appetite. Of course, this may vary from person to person, but generally speaking, it shouldn’t be too expensive.

Is it dangerous?

We don’t believe that removing farinaceous products, fried meals, sweets, fruits that contain too much sugar, pastry, sodas, and many types of junk food can hurt anyone. The keto diet is generally healthy for people who can eat meat, cheese and nuts, some sour cream, eggs – that’s what most of your meals will consist of. Obviously, as with any weight loss diet, don’t keep it for too long, and if you feel any kind of bad effects, consult a doctor or nutritionist and pause the diet.

To sum things up, we personally tried it and spoke with many people who kept it. Everyone considers the keto diet to be a natural weight loss method, and they didn’t report any side effects to it.

Should you count calories?

We personally don’t do it, as we believe that in time, you should learn to choose naturally what’s good for you and what’s not. You can control the rations if you feel that you’re eating too much. The issue isn’t in eating too much of what you’re allowed to, it’s eating things you shouldn’t.

If you wish, you can count the calories, although it’s not necessary. There are many websites and mobile applications that will help you with that. We simply think it’s too much of a hassle, and it won’t affect your results too much.

What can the maximum efficiency be of the keto diet?

We know people who lost 20 kg in less than 2 months. Some people report losing up to 10 kg in 20 days – it’s all about how committed you are to keeping it and not cheating. In the first few days you will usually see the fastest drop in weight, afterwards you will continue at a steady rate. If at anytime you think that you’ve stopped losing weight, try drinking more water and walking or light jogging more.

Are supplements indicated in this diet?

Sure. We recommend supplements in any diet, and even when you’re not losing weight! You should take Omega 3, Vitamin C, Vitamin B, multivitamins, selenium, magnesium, and the list can go on if you’re also doing exercise.

Should I do physical exercises along this diet?

If you can, it will only benefit you. Keto diet + jogging = crazy results. If you can’t or don’t have the time, it is very recommended that you walk at least 30 mins every day. Just walk on the way to work, or don’t take the elevator as much as usual. It will keep you healthy and accelerate your diet.
